H2S Removal from Biogas – The Best Way to Do It

As we have already known the fact that the major and main contaminant in biogas is H2S. We also know that H2S is corrosive and poisonous as well. It can create damage in the pipe and other equipment. Apart from this, biogas is a mixture of multiple gases. It is also renewable energy and it belongs to the category of biofuel.

The kitchen wastage and garden waste can be used to produce the biogas. This can also be created from the food wastages. But if you want to remove the H2S from biogas then you should know the best method. The most common method for H2S removal from biogas is the anaerobic digestion process.

Biological desulphurization

If you want to go with the simplest method of desulphurization then you can perform it by using the micro-organisms. In this process, you may add the oxygen into the digester or to the storage tank or space. Micro-organisms belong to the group of thiobacillus. Thiobacillus does not need the inoculation. It can grow on the surface. It offers the essential micro-aerophilic surface and also the necessary and needed nutrients. They can also form or create the yellow cluster of the sulphate. The whole reaction time depends on the temperature. The concentration of hydrogen sulphide can be decreased by 95% to less than 50 ppm.

But you need to take the preventive measures in order to avoid the problems of overdosing. The overdosing problem can lead to pump failures. Biogas in the air may be explosive but it will depend on the methane content. If you follow this process without taking any rust protection then there may be a small risk of corrosion at the interface of gas and liquid.

It is a quiet challenge in the area of biogas research. The retention of H2S in biogas can create some negative consequences on the durability of the equipment and human health as well.

The absorption technology involves the direct interaction of the biogas with water. This types of interaction will enable the physical absorption of H2S. Through the water scrubbing method, H2S is more soluble than the biomethane under this similar condition or circumstance.

Iron sponge process

You can also use this process to remove the H2S from biogas. It is cost-effective and provides improved flexibility as well. Ground garden waste or the digested garden waste is the alternative for the iron sponge method or process.

You can also use the activated carbon in order to remove H2S from biogas. Hydrogen Sulphide removal will be absorbed on the surface of the activated carbon. It can further accelerate the H2S removal process. It makes the process so easy as well. It is also a cost-effective process.

But the method of desulphurisation is one of the preferable solutions and approaches. But before proceeding this process, you will have to take protective measures as it has some pollution generation concerns. Apart from this, It is one of the best methods to remove H2S from biogas. It is also a widely used method.
