How Do Choose The Right Braces

If you are keen on keeping your teeth in the right shape and would like to correct crooked teeth, crowded teeth or teeth with big gaps in between then you have all reasons to spend some time going through this article. Braces are being used by thousands of men and women across the country for correcting formation deficiencies as far as teeth and gums are concerned. There are different types of braces available and you may be confused when it comes to making the right choice. However, you must bear in mind that your dentist is the right person who should be making the recommendation of the right braces. He or she does so, after taking into account various factors such as the actual problem, braces cost, the age of the person, the condition of his or her teeth and gums amongst other things. However, for the sake of information and knowledge, we are listing down some common types of braces.

Invisalign

This is one of the latest and perhaps one of the most popular types of dental braces that are recommended by orthodontists. This is a removable brace that is made from a transparent material. It makes use of clear aligners for straightening teeth and bringing it back to the desired position and shape. It is popular because, unlike other conventional braces, it is invisible. Hence, you can sport a normal smile without the fear of exposing the wires and braces that are often a problem with other types of braces. However, they are expensive and not all people might be able to afford it.

Self-Ligating Braces

These look very much like the traditional fixed braces that have been in vogue for the past many decades. However, you can now buy these braces made from ceramic and other discreet materials. Further, these self-ligating braces make use of clips in place of elastic bands. This is comfortable for the users and creates less friction. Brushing and moving the braces around is also easier. However, they are not as completely discreet or hidden as Invisalign braces. Brushing has to be done carefully to avoid improper cleaning of the teeth.

Lingual Braces

These are called lingual braces because they attach to the lingual or the tongue side of your teeth. They are not visible to the naked eye. However, they are effective when it comes to straightening and correcting improperly formed teeth. This is done from the inside. They look and function almost the same way as fixed braces. They are made from wires and brackets to push your teeth to its right position. Discretion is one of the main advantages of lingual braces. It might take a few days for your tongue to get used to these types of braces. It requires special skills to fix these braces and is therefore expensive when compared to lower cost options in the market.

Finally, you also have retainers. These are not exactly braces. They do not move the teeth but hold them in a fixed position once the braces are taken off. You could choose between fixed retainers and removable retainers. The downside is that if the retainers are not worn regularly, all the good work done by braces could go waste.
